Werner MT-22 300-Pound Duty Rating Telescoping Multi-Ladder

I'll admit, a ladder is NOT the most exciting product to talk about. That is until you actually Need one!

I've bought my fair share of cheapie, wooden ladders for general maintenance in and around the house. And I've had my fair share of 'close calls' using those little death traps too.

No More!

I'm not getting any younger and I need something that can safely support my weight and remain stable. I started looking around for a good ladder and came across the Werner MT-22 300-Pound Duty Rating Telescoping Multi-Ladder.

For a ladder, it's quite impressive so I thought I'd share some of the research I discovered on this product.

Werner Ladders – The Pro's Choice

I'm not 'in the trades' but I quickly found out that Werner ladders are built with the pros in mind. In fact, I discovered Werner is preferred by professionals more than any other brand.

The folks at Werner manufacture a full line of professional grade stages, planks, scaffolding,
specialty ladders and ladder accessories. Basically, if you need a ladder from 2 feet to 60 feet (and everything in between), Werner makes a ladder for the job at hand.

They've been in business since 1922 so it seems Werner knows what they're doing when it comes to making ladders. But let's get back to the MT 22 and my little review.

Step Right Up!

As you know, different jobs require different tools. What I really like about this ladder is that it's actually MULTIPLE ladders in one. The Werner MT22 can be used as a:

  • stepladder

  • stairway stepladder

  • twin stepladder

  • extension ladder

  • or two scaffold bases to be used with a plank (they don't include the plank!)

In fact, there are 28 different working heights or position this puppy can be configured into. And it can support up to 300 lbs. (Which I'm not there …. yet!) This could easily be the last ladder I'll ever need to buy.

I decided to explore the 22 foot model because this will go to the roof of my two story house. (Gotta hang those Christmas lights!)

Stairway To Heaven

Last year I just about made the trip to the Pearly Gates while painting the stairwell in my home. I tried to 'rig' the ladder so I could use it on the steps.

KIDS: THIS IS A VERY BAD AND DUMB IDEA!

The MT-22 can be easily – and more importantly – safely converted to work just fine on stair steps. I'll never make that foolish mistake again. This feature alone makes this ladder worth every penny. (St Peter is just going to have to wait!)

Scaffolding – Why Didn't I Think Of That?

I've never worked with scaffolding before but what a great idea. The last time I painted our family room, I used a chair so I could reach the top of the wall.

No biggie. It got the job done.

What I failed to realize is that I'm no longer a 'spring chicken'! All that up-on-the-chair-down-off-the-chair wasn't a problem at the time. But brother, for darn near the whole next WEEK my leg muscles were so sore from that all that up and down stepping.

Yeah, I know I'm not in the greatest shape but I really didn't expect to walk around like a 110 year old man because I painted a room!

I think having a convenient scaffolding system would have greatly minimized my pain and most likely have speed-up the painting process to boot.

What Others Are Saying About the Werner MT-22 Telescoping Multi-Ladder

As I may have previously mentioned, I'm a research nut. Before I spend my hard-earned money, I want to make doubly-sure that I'm getting a good deal. So when it came time to investigate ladders, I did my homework.

And what I found was very impressive! Werner MT-22 owners use – and love – their ladders. If you can love your ladder that is! (Well, I love my little power steamer so I guess you can love a ladder.)

Here's a small sampling of what they've said about this multi-ladder:

  • This ladder is ideal for anyone who uses 5' and 8' ladders regularly along with a 19' extension ladder.

  • If you've ever tried using a ladder on stairs by adding some sort of (unsafe) support under two of the feet, you'll be amazed how effortlessly & safely you can use this ladder on stairs.
  • It is probably the sturdiest and safest that you could ask for.

  • The ladder is very solid.

  • This is a great ladder with virtually no flaws. Does everything it's advertised to do and more

  • The ladder is rock solid and the mechanism is smooth in transit and positive in locking.

  • I am 6' 2", 280 and not particularly agile. I have never felt more secure on a ladder.

  • At full extension, the MT-22 has a more solid feel than my 19' aluminum extension ladder.

One Common Detractor

One comment I did see brought up a few times is the weight. This workhorse weighs 47 lbs.

For a quick job, grabbing a step-stool or a smaller stepladder might be the best choice. But for stability and pure versatility, many owners more than happy with their purchase.

And even if it weighs a bit much, the convenience factor in storing this ladder more than makes up for it.

If you'd like to read more comments for the MT-22, just click the link below and navigate over to "Customer Reviews".

At the time of this writing, there were well over 250 reviews. That speaks volumes for this ladder. But what truly amazes me is the rating the vast majority of owners gave the ladder a solid 4.5 star rating. That is a HUGE vote of approval for Werner's 22 foot ladder.

Double-Team It!

Step Right Up And Get Your MT-22

I searched around on the net and found that Amazon is currently selling this ladder for about 13 bucks cheaper than Home Depot and Lowes. And Amazon has it in stock. And even though it weighs about 50 pounds, Amazon has Free Shipping!

If you've got a painting job to tackle, need to clean the leaves out of the eaves, or want a safe piece of equipment to hang your Holiday lights, this is all the ladder you'll ever need.
