Wagner Steamer
Okay, I'll admit it. I like to clean.
Well, not so much the actual 'cleaning' part, but I DO like things to BE clean. So I'm always on the lookout for products that will help make the job quicker and easier.
One little gadget that's been catching my eye lately is the Wagner 905 Power Steamer and Cleaner. Granted, that's a pretty big title for a little machine!

The weird thing is that the 905 is touted as a wallpaper remover. And from what I can tell, it does do a pretty decent job at that task.
What intrigued the heck out of me was the MANY other household uses you can use the power steamer to tackle. Many uses I had never thought of. And the more I dug around the net, the more uses I found for this little yellow cleaning machine.
We'll take a look at the myriad of paces you can put this little steamer through in a minute, but let's explore exactly what is the Wagner 905 Power Steamer and Cleaner.
For starters, this yellow unit is actually a 'green' cleaner. Green as in eco-friendly. (Although it seems to do a bang-up job tackling things that have turned green!
Clean With Steam!
The Wagner 905 uses steam to clean without the use – or need – for strong chemicals. The cleaning power is provided via 1,500 watts of pressurized steam that cleans - and sanitizes - as it works. The On-Demand fingertip steam control provides for continuous steam or intermittent steam, depending on the chore at hand.
But is steam alone enough for adequate cleaning? Hundreds of happy customers say 'yes!". The 905 completely cleans by using a a non-chemical and non-destructive method.
Plus cleaning with steam has the added benefits of destroying bacteria, dust spores, and mites. (Nasty!) And for good measure, steam also eliminates mildew quickly and easily.
After filling up the unit with water, it takes about 10-12 minutes before the proper temperature is reached for use.
I downloaded the user's manual to see how much water is needed and also how much "clean time" you get.
Amount of water - Steam time
16 oz. - 15 min
32 oz. - 30 min
48 oz. - 45 min
By the way, the measuring cup and funnel are included. So depending on the size of the job at hand, just adjust the amount of water needed. No need to overfill.
Power Steamer Accessories
And speaking of the 'job at hand', here's a list of the accessories that are included with the 905 Power Steamer:
wallpaper steam plate
floor cleaner attachment
window/tile squeegee
two extension tubes
assorted utility brushes
and jet nozzle
Okay, let's get down to the 'fun stuff'. (That is if cleaning CAN BE fun!)
As I was reading the reviews at Wagner.com, epionions.com and my favorite, Amazon.com, it was clear that this Wagner Power Steamer is an overwhelming hit with its owners. In fact, I got so caught-up reading the glowing reviews and it's safe to say I read a couple HUNDRED of them. Quite a good read (if you're into that kind of thing – which I am!).
But Will The 905 Clean This?
To save you a little time (okay, A LOT of time), I condensed just some of the household chores you can tackle with Wagner's little steam machine:
For starters: stripping wallpaper.
Many do-it-yourselvers, especially those who are renovating older homes, found this unit to do a very good job at removing wallpaper. Even the stuff that's been on the walls for years.
And as previously mentioned, removing wallpaper is the job that the product was designed to accomplish. Now here is a sampling of the 1000s of other uses cleaver homeowners have employed with the steam cleaner:
Stainless steel sinks (lots of reports of sinks regaining their brand-new appearance)
BBQ grills (although some say it doesn't work perfectly, many others are very happy with the results on their outdoor grills)
Steam mop – why get a machine that just does floors?
Glass enclosed shower stalls (gunky shower walls is a problem in our home)
Cat urine smell without using chemicals (I don't own a cat but several folks who do said the unit did the trick when Tabby forgets to use the litter box!)
Clean tile and grout (This is probably the most cited use for the power steamer. MANY happy users who had forgotten what their grout originally looked like!)
Sanitizing tile floors
Shower stall mildew and soap scum removal from the grout
Vinyl flooring
Carpet indentations from heavy objects – steaming "springs" carpets back to life
The hose and jet nozzle are extremely good for those small, hard-to-get-to places. (Think faucet crevice gunk and crud around the toilet)
Baseboards were a common area that's cleaned with ease with the 905. Many were amazed how great their baseboards looked after a quick 'steaming'.
Here's one use I didn't think of but is a problem in my house: water streaks/stains running down from the dispenser in the refrigerator door. Steam will lift those streaks right up.
And as long as we're cleaning in the kitchen, many 905 users found it a quick task to remove the baked in grime and gunk that builds up around the burners on the stove. The 905 fixed it fast.
More Jobs To Tackle With The Wagner 905
Trust me, this is just a partial list of jobs the Wagner 905 handled with ease. There are some pretty creative people out there putting this 'yeller' steam cleaner through it's paces doing things I'd have never even thought of:
removing vinyl floor tiles
antique and furniture restoration
cleaning the jacuzzi tub
steam cleaning drapes
tidying up the crevices in sliding patio doors
removing baked on grease and carbon from cooking pots
getting rid of the ring under the dog's dish
blasting the soap scum from the shower stall floor
adding sparkle to the car's dash board, doors, and the center of the gear shifter (That shifter does get grimy!)
Sorry, I went a little crazy there but seriously, there are just so many uses for this product!
Okay, What's The Bad News...
But the steam cleaner is not a 'magic bullet' or a miracle machine. It does have some flaws that should be pointed out.
CONS:
Since your working with steam, once it cools down, it returns to it's natural state: water! So if you're using the 905 as a wallpaper remover, keep a bucket or pan close by to catch the excess water. Towels are strongly suggested.
Storing this steamer is a bit of challenge due to its long hose and many accessories. It's been suggested keeping the original box, as the original box is the best container to store the steamer, its long hose and cord plus all the accessories.
And speaking of long cords and hoses, a downside to this unit is that the hose and electrical cord doesn't wrap around and secure themselves to the unit. That may not be a biggie for you, but thought you should know.
Also, I wouldn't use this on wood floors or self-adhesive vinyl tiling. Some owners have successfully used it on wood floors but steam can warp wood so it's not recommended. Steam can also loosen up adhesive glue. But Wagner says you can use it on ceramic, stone, parquet, marble, linoleum and carpet.
Solid, 4-Star Rating From 100s Of Users
So yes, there are a few detractors for this product, but the power and simplicity of this unit seems to far outweigh the drawbacks. In fact, the Wagner 905 Power Steamer and Cleaner earned a solid 4-star rating from it's owners with the majority even rating it a full 5-Stars!
If you're in the market for a very versatile steam cleaning machine for your home, I'm confident you'll be plenty satisfied with this unit.
